What is International Women's Day?

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, 2022. What is the significance of this day? International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating women for their achievements and contributions to society, culture, economics and politics. Additionally, this day aims to break the bias of gender inequality, gender stereotyping and gender discrimination.

"International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilise political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity"

International Women’s Day marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

International Women's Day 2022: #BreakTheBias

Today around the globe, people are campaigning to #BreakTheBias. This is a campaign for a gender-equal world.  A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.

Are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it?

Anyone can join the movement by striking the IWD #BreakTheBias pose. This includes crossing your arms to show solidarity.

Karen Holland, Co Founder of Brickfield is photographed hands crossed, striking the breaking the bias pose. The text reads "Here at Brickfield, we are proud to contribute to #BreakTheBias by promoting and enabling equality, inclusion and self-progression through education and through that, beyond!"
